Father Of K-Pop Star Beaten To Death

2018 Bazaar Men Of The Year

1Punch K-pop star Samuel's father has been killed.

According to PEOPLE, Jose Arredondo, 58, of Bakersfield, California — a car dealer who immigrated to the United States in the 1970s from Mexico — was discovered dead in Cabo San Lucas Tuesday night (July 17). Local outlet KGET News reported Arredondo's body was recovered in a home he owned in Mexico.

The 17-year-old entertainer, whose full name is Samuel Kim Arredondo but known as "Punch" for short, is said to be Jose's son, and used to appear in his dad's car dealership ads as a child, per Yahoo News. Samuel, who released his debut project in 2017, is currently residing in South Korea.

As of Wednesday (July 18), there are no suspects connected to Jose's death, circumstances of which remain scarce, though Baja California Sur state prosecutors told the Associated Press the businessman's body "showed signs of blunt force trauma."

A United States State Department official told the AP, “We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death."

Jose's pastor, James Ranger of New Life Church, believes the tragedy was an act of "murder" by stabbing, as he described in a grief-stricken statement on Facebook. “I will miss you my dear friend….until we meet again,” Ranger mourned in the post, which included a fond video of Jose.

We're sending our thoughts to Samuel and his family at this difficult time.
