Ringo Starr Recruits Paul McCartney For Star-Studded 80th Birthday Bash

56th GRAMMY Awards - Show

Ringo Starr turns 80 on July 7, and he's not letting COVID-19 stop him from having a big bash. On Tuesday (June 30), the legendary drummer announced "Ringo’s Big Birthday Show" — a virtual charity concert featuring a mix of live performances and never before seen footage from his Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney, as well as Sheryl Crow, Gary Clark, Jr., Sheila E, Ben Harper, and others.

“I love birthdays,” he told Rolling Stone. “This year is going to be a little different. There’s no big get-together, there’s no brunch for 100. But we’re putting this show together – an hour of music and chat. It’s quite a big birthday.”

The party will also feature a star-studded version of Starr’s 2017 song “Give More Love” with Jackson Browne, Jeff Bridges, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, and others. Aside from the show, Starr plans to debut a series of tribute performances on his YouTube channel from artists like Steve Earle, Peter Frampton, and Judy Collins. He is also asking fans to “say, think, or post #peaceandlove at noon their local time on July 7th.”

"Ringo’s Big Birthday Show" will benefit Black Lives Matter Global Network, The David Lynch Foundation, MusiCares, and WaterAid and will air on YouTube at 8pm EST on July 7.
