The Soul Patrol is back!

Taylor Hicks recently opened up about winning American Idol 20 years ago, revealing that he's also slated to return to the show.

"It's been a whirlwind since my win in show business," the musician told PEOPLE in an interview published on Wednesday (April 29). "I wouldn't trade it for the world. It was the greatest platform. The dream I had when I was a little boy, in making it and being an entertainer, was realized with that win. I'm very nostalgic about going back on the show and seeing everybody."

Hicks won the fifth season of the iconic music competition back in May 2006 and will return to the show on Monday (May 4) to perform his new single, "The Mirror."

Following his win, Hicks became the first Idol winner to secure a Las Vegas residency. "I went from playing to 50 people in my little bar in Birmingham to touring Southeast Asia in seven months," he recalled of his win. "So that's the kind of impact that Idol made for me at that time."

His season on the show also featured the likes of Chris Daughtry and Katharine McPhee. "I feel like I have most of the top 10 in my cell phone still, and I do keep up with everybody as much as we can," the singer, who affectionately became known to fans as the "Soul Patrol" during his time on the show, revealed.

Of his upcoming return to the show, Hicks added, "I'm really excited to be around the contestants. And mostly just soaking up all of the vibe and the nostalgia of being really blessed to be back on after 20 years and still kicking."
