The Bellaire High School class of 2022 is celebrating a record 13 graduates with perfect GPAs of 5.0.
That beats the school's record from last year when it produced nine valedictorians. Both feats are Houston ISD records.
This year's valedictorians are Margaret Schwierking, Jason Yao, Owen Zhang, Katherine Chen, Sophia Hernandez, Collin Crockett, Justice Cordova, Annie Lin, Crystal Tang, Albert Zhu, Donne Su, Nina Zhang, and Richard Lin. Zhang was the class homecoming king, and Hernandez was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper.
And it wasn't easy for the top scholars. HISD Superintendent Millard House II noted that half of the students' high school careers happened during a pandemic when many classes were virtual. “We must not forget that," he said. "Despite all the challenges, they still earned a perfect GPA.”
